HELPFUL INFORMATION REGARDING THE 2011 SAILSTICE DELMARVA RALLY
When is the Sailstice DelMarVa Rally 2011? The event is in the middle of June. The dates are June 18th – June 25 2011. For registrations after April 30th, the entry fee is $350. No registrations will be accepted after June 12th.
What is the distance of the Rally? Approximately 400 miles
How many stops are there along the route? There are 3 stops not counting the start and finish.
What is the object of the Rally? To give sailors the opportunity to sail around the DelMarVa Peninsula in a group, have fun and also to give those sailors who want to do a little offshore sailing the opportunity to do so in a supervised and safe environment. It is also a good event to meet new friends and enjoy good sailing.
Who can enter the rally? Boats 28 feet and over are eligible but must be offshore capable and have the necessary safety and emergency gear. Check with the Coast Guard for a current list.
Do I need a radio? Yes. Whilst a SSB (Single Side Band) is not required a VHF with antenna is as well as a handheld VHF. A cell phone is also a good idea.
Do I need Insurance? Yes AND you will need to check and possibly add a rider for the event since you will be offshore. Remember, this is a RALLY not a race.
What experience does the crew need to have? All boats must have at least one crew member with offshore experience and at least another with overnight experience. Crew should all be healthy and in good physical condition. A minimum of 4 crew is a good number for this event. Such decisions are yours and not the Rally Organizers.
Do I need a liferaft? All boats must have either a liferaft (can be rented) or an inflated dinghy for the offshore leg. Are boats inspected? All boats will be given an inspection sheet listing items that the Rally Organizers require and these will be checked off by each boat, signed and handed in to the Registration desk prior to the event. The Auxiliary Coast Guard will be available for a courtesy inspection if you wish.
What facilities and services are on the Route? All stops have the option of anchoring out or tying up at a Marina. Upon registration a list of the Marina’s will be made available and it is up to the individual boats to make arrangements. Showers, stores, restaurants, fuel, ice are available at all the stops.
How much is it to enter? Entry fee is $300 per boat and registration must be received no later than 15th April 2011. What does my entry fee get me? You will get a swag /skippers bag, TShirt for each crew member, an event program and many other sponsorship goodies.
Why should I sign up early? As this is the First event the first 10 registrations will receive a commemorative plaque to hang up in your boat.
Will there be a committee / rally control boat? Yes. There will be a Trawler that will follow the fleet and act as communications, safety boat.
Where can I check for updates any relevant information? Updates will be posted on this site and email correspondence will be sent to registrants as appropriate. You can check here or at Spinsheet magazine’s website www.spinsheet.com You can also contact us via email at info@delmarvarally.com
